![]() Since 2008 all my DAWS were intel because AMD were always running so hot and slow, now I'm happy to see they've turned it around at least on the speded side of things, all new CPUs run relatively hot compared with CPUs of the start of htis decade. My Last AMD based system was in 2005-2006, an Athwith 2GB of ram and a Yamaha 01X as my audio interface, it was not the improvement I expected going from and AMD Athlon XP 2500+ prior to that so I persevered until I built my first intel DAW in 2008, a Core 2 Duo E6750 and it was so much faster. Seagate Constellation 1TB (for project files) Seagate Barracuda 2TB (for Clonezilla Images of SSDs) The older cpus and network cards had no fans, but the power supplies were extra noisy so that made up for it.ģ2GB Hyper X Fury 3200MHZ DDR4 (2 sticks) I suspect it is never economically worthwhile to try and nurse an old system along if the mobo is out of current production. I have an old ziploc sandwich bag full of old cpus going back to pentium 1 (no fan on those.). Its ebay, so time for dinking around with returns and taking it to someplace to get it shipped back. Moral of the story-my experience is that the mobo is the most likely thing to fail. It won't even turn on the power supply-the old board at least got halfway thru post. I didn't want to scrap a good cpu, so I bought a used asus p9dws. I had an asus p9dws fail on my old pc and replaced it with newer technology(see below). Who knows what it is today-maybe i can see if a manager will look me up. I knew a guy who worked there and about 10 years ago he looked me up on their system and I had spent over $10,000 there since day 1. Of course, microcenter is doing well by me. Its a hassle to drive, but better than waiting a week or two to deal with mail order returns and questions about which part is actually the broken one. I once returned an entire $600 worth of mobo/cpu/dram due to a problem. However, they have a no questions asked return policy (15 or 30 days), so if I have a problem with new system, I can get different parts. Microcenter tried to match that service for a while, but once the other store went out of business, microcenter did not do that anymore. They would put the parts on the mobo and post it right in front of you before you bought. I think most of their customers assembled their own computors. There used to be a computer parts company in town where you could buy mobo, ram, and cpu. Its so frustrating to get what you have been excited for and learn its not working-same thing happened to me today. The M2A connector shares bandwidth with the SATA3 1 the M2P connector shares bandwidth with the PCIEX4 connector. The M2M connector shares bandwidth with the SATA3 4, 5 connectors. Installation Notices for the PCIEX4, M.2 and SATA Connectors:ĭue to the limited number of lanes provided by the Chipset, the availability of the SATA connectors may be affected by the type of device installed in the M2. Reserved I/O: 0Are you using M.2 drives on your MOBO? I know on my Z370 board I was only able to use one of the two M.2 slots as the second one shares bandwidth with the PCIE4 slot, so the thunderbolt card wouldn't show up until I moved the m2. When I check plu in devices info in BIOS fro PCIe slots, all show "N/A" I installed the driver from Gigabyte website but it doesnt help since device manager cant even detect new hardware. So I bought GC-Titan Ridge TB3 card for my computer with gigabyte z390 gaming X motherboard.īut thunderbolt doesn't show up in device manager neither in bios. just to get that little USB C? Are they also selling a version that comes with the upgraded panel? If so at what price, I missed this info in the article.Me here again with my Thunderbolt quetion: Why should I pay to replace perfectly good USB ports, audio jacks, power button, cables, etc. My point is they chose to sell a 30E module instead of just charging for the extra bit, which is the USB type C port. I know there are even more expensive cases. It's a pity to see that reviewer didn't even bother to put this in the "Thumbs down" section, let alone to duck points. And given that it's a *replacement* panel, once replaced the old one has 0 value. ![]() ![]() I would severely downvote any case in that price bracket that charges 30E for one port basically. So the USB type C extension is a 30E extra on top of the 150E? Instead of offering the case for 155E with a USB type C port they chose to sell you a whole new almost entirely useless module just for that one port.
